“Diversidades Gráficas”
Diversity and Cultural Identity.
Members of the printmaking workshop led by Adzul Marino have come together to create graphic art centered around themes of cultural identity since November 2021 in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo.
Artist and designer Adzul Marino initiated the workshop to inspire the community to produce their own graphics, welcoming professionals from various fields, as any citizen may have a need to connect with their roots through art.
Themes that have emerged include Mexican wrestling, the Tzompantli (a wall of skulls in ancient Mexico), the Mexican Revolution, Tarot, and the game of lotería.
Prints from the exhibitions ‘Gráfica vs Cabellera’ or ‘Tzompantli Gráfico’ have made their way to Playa del Carmen, Cancún, Tulum, and Guadalajara.
The ‘Diversidades Gráficas’ exhibition showcases a selection of works by artists with diverse professional backgrounds, including Adzul Marino (a graduate in graphic design, visual artist, and an undergraduate visual arts instructor), Óscar Agüero (a graduate in international business, self-taught painter), Viviana Sánchez (a graduate in graphic design, photographer, and dancer), Diana E Castro (a graduate in tourism with experience in ceramics, painting, and engraving techniques), Octavio Ramirez (a graduate in visual arts, director of scenography, props, and costume design, documentary and video artist), Zeltzin J Jiménez (a graduate in architecture with a diploma in art history and community culture), and Leonard Flores (a graduate in business administration with a postgraduate degree in contemporary art).
